Navigation : Home About About VillageNetworks A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO VILLAGE NETWORKS Village Networks has developed a wireless broadband service to enable rural communities to enjoy the benefit of high speed computer connectivity. We have been operating a network in Steeple Claydon for 18 months and in Calvert Green since November 2003. We are now developing plans to extend to our surrounding villages and have received grant funding from SEEDA via the Bucks Broadband Implementation Group (BBIG).
A fundamental principle of our service offering is that we are providing reliable high speed connection to the internet and related services, using industry standard equipment. We developed the network in theory, tested it in practice and are now able to offer a resilient high capacity network to rural communities.
The service is based on a high speed wireless network within the community using node points at strategic positions around the village and small receivers on each customer’s house. This service connects to a high capacity internet backbone.
Connection to the network is very easy and just requires the installation of a small external aerial and a small interface box inside the house that connects to your computer. The aerial and interface box are installed for you by our trained installers.
The service offers connection to the internet and email services at the standard ADSL speeds of around 0.5 Mbits per second. This is upgradeable if you require a faster supply. Also, as we are using a wireless network, you are always connected to the internet and do not need to dial-up or tie up your telephone line.
The cost of the service is a fixed charge of £29.50 per month for single computer access and £39.50 per month for multiple computer access. This includes all access to the internet, e-mail addresses (though you can keep your original e-mail if you prefer) and webspace. The initial contract is for one year.
The installation cost is £185. We can also quote for other services such as a fixed IP address, a complete email service, your own domain name and advice on security issues (firewalls, anti-virus etc).
We are currently planning a program to install backhaul supply to other communities in Buckinghamshire and are currently seeking expressions of interest from potential subscribers. We are keen to identify anyone who believes their properties are in a strategic position and would be prepared to act as a node point for the network. If you would like to let us know of your interest please register on-line by clicking the contact or signup links.
